I had previously used my mother's more expensive embroidery machine and wanted to do more embroidery projects at home, but without breaking the bank. When I bought the machine, I intially bought it for its less expensive embroidery function. I bought the Singer CE-200 about 4 years and still use it today mainly for occassional sewing. I like my Futura, just wish I could master it and make it worth the price my husband paid for it! That would make us both happier! Compared to my old Morse (1960's) and old Singer (70's), the Futura took a lot getting used to in the areas of tension, bobbin fills, and threads. Some accessories like various feet, bobbins and other itmes may be different from the traditional models.
However, early on, I had two occasions to call the help-line number (in the accompanying manual) and I had a very cheerful and supportive response from the lady who really knew the machine! Not only did she advise on the solution to my problem, she also pointed out how I could avoid it, like being more sensitive to the two little "clicks" when beginning the threading process. That's the kind of info the manual should have. However, I haven't seemed to have much luck with autopunch, and I'm so frustrated. I don't seem to be able to find a "by-my-side" tutor for this machine at the sewing/fabric stores. I dug right in and tried all the cool stitches, enjoyed embroidering "free-hand" motifs, and liked the easy demos on the disk. I was so excited when I got the *Quantum Futura CE200* as a gift from my husband. True Stay Away - Stay FAR, FAR away!!!!!!! But this machine is a little gem and a workhorse too.
If you're in a hurry then you will have nothing but headaches with it.
If you take your time you can understand how to use the machine. I've had a few things I've had to think through about how to use it. I just bought this machine a few weeks ago.
The software has a few glitches that are easily fixed with the software upgrade free on the Singer site. Everything works well on this machine and it does so consistently. Nicely machined parts and very well designed machine. Handles a broad array of fabrics VERY nicely. NONE of the small problems are too difficult to solve. BUT when you have thought through the problem usually the solution is very easy with this machine. if you cannot think through a problem this machine will be very frustrating for you to use. so you have to THINK about what you are doing. the machine worked perfectly out of the box with no problems. If you are an experienced person this machine is a little dream come true!Įxcellent. Works wonderfully and makes beautiful embroidery! If you don't have experience with sewing or you are easily frustrated this machine will not be good for you.
